Scanlaser's First Civil Engineer Spotlight

14 July 2010

Even though the weather was wet & windy, Wednesday 14th July was a prestigious day for Scanlaser as we held our first ‘Civil Engineering Spotlight’ at our new offices in Staffordshire. The event was organised in partnership with Leica Geosystems; providing a dedicated civil engineering event to the construction industry. With over 100 visitors in attendance from across the country, the event was a resounding success!

The Civil Engineering Spotlight provided us with a perfect opportunity to provide our guests with a better understanding of Machine Control Solutions, using our products to explain the array of benefits which can be achieved including increased productivity, reduced project down-time and increased site safety.

At the event, guests were treated to a brief seminar session before moving to the live demonstration area. Here, the civil engineering process was divided into four distinct operations; initial measurements, data validation, earthworks & trimming. Each provide an opportunity for visitors to get hands on with the latest equipment, providing them with a unique and memorable experience.

The earthworks area was particularity impressive as two JCB excavators completed a road formation while a CAT D5H Dozer produced a millimetre accurate surface finish on another part of the site. All three machines were controlled by Scanlaser’s innovative systems which ranged from laser ‘indicate’ guidance to full GPS/TPS automatic control. When the demonstrations were complete, guests were then able to climb aboard the machines and see first-hand how machine control is revolutionising the construction process.

After the success of the first Civil Engineering Spotlight, the event will be making a return in 2011, where we hope to make it even bigger and better!
