Cable Detection EZiDIG wins OPERC Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety for Buried Services Award.
The recently launched Cable Detection EZiDIG, the world´s first excavator mounted buried service avoidance system has won the OPERC award for Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety for buried services. The award was presented to Cable Detection at the OPERC Spring Conference in London on February 27th.
Dr David Edwards from Loughborough University and OPERC conducted a two day trial using a JRB site in Telford at the end of November in order to do an official study on the product. This study and his findings led him to recommend the EZiDIG for the award.
Additional Line of Defence
The EZiDIG aims to add an additional, crucial level of safety to the excavation process. Traditionally hand held locators are used to scan an area before excavation begins. Best practice recommends a repeat scan frequently as the trench is dug. Errors due to human failure result in damaged services, machinery and injured site workers. EZiDIG brings a huge benefit to any excavation project as it scans the area continuously during excavation, significantly reducing the risk to excavator operators and leaving them in control of their own environment. It is adding this additional line of defence as the excavation is taking place that has seen the EZiDIG win this award.
The EZiDIG System
The EZiDIG Sensor unit is attached to the excavator dipper arm and communicates in real time with the excavator driver, via the in cab display when it locates electromagnetic signals emitted by buried metallic services. The EZiDIG is being sold through Cable Detection´s sister company Scanlaser, experts in the area of Machine Control Solutions. Scanlaser have been identified as the perfect partner for this product due to their existing knowledge of the construction machine control market and their close relationship with Cable Detection and its existing technologies.
The EZiDIG takes location technology one step further into an area where no other products exist and has now been acknowledged as an Outstanding Contribution to Health and Safety for Buried Services.
